Is this avocado salsa the new guacamole? The lime and herbs give it a zesty freshness and the hint of spice is balanced by the cooling avocado. Perfect with corn chips or spooned on top of nachos, this salsa is really challenging guacamole for top spot in the avocado dip category! Test it out and decide for yourself. Tomatillos can be hard to find fresh but your supermarket may have tinned tomatillos. If you can’t find any use 2 tbsp of salsa verde (tomatillo salsa) or sub with a slightly under-ripe tomato.

Ingredients

  • 2 BayFarms avocados
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 spring onions
  • 1 tomatillo
  • big handful of coriander
  • 1/2 jalapeno (or another fresh green chilli)
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

Roughly chop all the ingredients and add to a blender. Blend until smooth. If you are worried about the spice levels then keep the chilli aside and add small amounts at a time until it suits your taste. You can also add more salt to taste. To make the dip go a bit further add 1/2 to 1 cup of water while blending. Serve with corn chips or spoon onto nachos or any Mexican dish!
